Strandhill is a great surf location with a beach over 1km long. It's located south of Sligo town and has a promenade with bars, accommodation, shops and car parking.
This beach caters for all levels of surfers from beginners to the more experienced... there are a few locals who are pretty good and out most days when the beach is working.
Strandhill works well with a east or south east wind and when a big swell hits the waves can get pretty big; 5 - 10 foot.
The majority of the foreshore is made up of rocks in front of the promenade... so if you want to keep clear of these try keeping well up or down shore of the promenade area. Watch out for the rips at this beach particularly if there is a big swell or stormy conditions.
Strandhill is a very popular surf spot during the summer and can get very busy... it can be hard to get a car space as the place is very popular with walkers and people just out for the day.
The great thing about this break is that once you're out of the water there are a couple of pubs for a few beers or a bite to eat and Sligo town is only a stones throw away.
