I know its nearly our obligation to go drinking on Paddy's Day but I hadn't been out for a surf in nearly two weeks so me and Colin hit the West coast... and it turned out to be a great decision!
We set out at about 10.30 with Doonbeg in mind but as we got closer to Clare we got word that it was pretty messy there so we rolled up to check out Spanish Point... we were worried that the strong southery winds were going to ruin the surf but it didnt seem to effect Spanish Point too much.
The place was nearly deserted apart from a few beginner surfers that joined in near the end. We had the choice of waves; they started off a bit irregular around 2 foot in height... then the wind seemed to change cross/offshore, the waves were more regular and got bigger - close to 5 foot at times.
Myself and Colin caught some great waves, a lot between 2 and 4 foot... the wave of the day went to Colin - he dropped in on a 5 footer and surfed along the face.
I caught some of my best waves ever - dropping in on big enough waves and riding along the face, at one point I dropped in on a 5 footer, I had a bit of hang time in the drop... it was unreal but I couldnt hold it and ended up wiping out within seconds, regardless I was still stoked.
The conditions on Wind Guru were 32 Km/h South SouthWest winds and a 2.7 metre swell from the South West... I'll be noting these for again! Totally stoked after this surf and cant wait to get back into the water... a few pics of the waves below but you had to be there to really appreciate it!
