There are so many surf movies which show you amazing shots and epic surf locations around the world...Chasing The Lotus does this but also gives you an insight into the pioneers of surf videography and photography spanning across the decades from 1960 to present times.
This documentary type movie recaps the careers of two underground cinematographers Greg Weaver & Spyder Wills as they set out back in the 60's capturing surfing on old school equipment.
The movie shows an element of the surf culture in the 60's and 70's which would surprise some...the majority of people in the footage were on some sort of drugs, including some of the surfers!
The movie includes some retro 8mm footage of Gerry Lopez, Sunny Garcia and many other legendary surfers.
While it offers some great surf footage and interviews with many of the legends of the surfing community, it will be best rememebered for the portrayal of Weaver & Wills as they show the true art of cinematography.
A decent watch which will be of particular interest to the novice videographers out there!
