So last Saturday was the 2nd surf trip of the year and It Was Baltic!
Me, Colin & Paddy headed to Sligo and were meeting Ciaran & Marc there. A phone call from Marc at about 1.30 let us know that Streedagh was flat.. there wasn't a fart of a wave...
So Strandhill it was then... with the frost still on the trees and the treat of snow we got the wetsuits on and hit the water. The waves were big enough... bout 4 -5 foot at times but this was over the rocky part so I headed towards the beach to the right... wimped out I know!
The waves over here were smaller and less frequent but I just wasnt prepared to risk the rocks below for the bigger waves. Some guys were ripping it up on the bigger waves so the conditions were pretty good for the more experienced surfer.
So we lasted just over an hour and with only one wave caught I headed in... the one and only wave I caught was bout 1 - 2 foot, clean and I surfed along the face of it... although one of the shortest rides of my life!
The snow began to fall as we were togging in, so there was only one thing for it... a beef stew in the Strand Bar at the prominade. This sorted us right out and gave us the energy for the night ahead at the Garavogue, McHughs and Velvet nightclub.
Hopefully the weather will heat up for the next trip!
