So where to start... I guess at the beginning! So 'surfing' to me up till a few years ago was guys out in Australia or America in the sunshine ripping it up... it never occured to me that Ireland would be a top location or that I would be caught up in it.
Back in March 08' my brother and Ciaran were back from their travels around Australia and South America and Colin set up a trip with a massive crew for surf lessons in Bundoran on Paddy's wknd. The weather was crap, I didnt really know where I was going or what to expect...
So I landed in Bundoran on the Friday night - found the Bundoran Surf Co. Lodge (eventualy) and by the end of the night there were about 25 of us ready to hit the water the next day... but of course we had to sample the nightlife first!!
Ya can probe see from the photos that we gathered in Chasin Bull - basically because this pub seemed the least dodgy! It turned out to be a great pub with live bands. This was our watering hole for the weekend along with the Bridge Bar and of course... Jumpin Jacks nightclub.
With dying heads on us on the Saturday morning we got the breakfast at the surf lodge, tried on wetsuits and got loaded up in the mini bus. We were brought to Tullan and for those of you who dont know this beach its a bit of a daunting walk down the rocky & steep cliff pathway.
The water was freezing, spongeboards were going everywhere, waves were messy and nobody had a clue what to do... the insructors were great though and a few of us got up that morning.
Out on the lash Saturday night again and surfed the following morning. Overall it was a great wknd, one that got me hooked on surfing.
If your heading to Bundoran Id totally recommend the Bundoran Surf Co. lodge and shop and the best pubs are probably Chasin Bull, the Bridge Bar and Jumpin Jacks... many a JD & Coke have been had there since!!
