I've recently had a look at Sea Fever An Irish Surf Odysessy and it was a nice change from the other foreign surf movies I've come across. The movie is all about surfing in Ireland and gives an insight into the now famous waves at the Cliffs of Moher.
Again, like the majority of Irish surf productions there is a brief history of surfing in Ireland, once you've seen this in one production it gets slightly repetitive as you see it again and again but the Irish surfing pioneers are fully entitled to their recognition so I guess it's all about compromise.
The movie certainly has an Irish feel but too much was focused on Aileens for me (and I love looking at big wave surfing!).
It was good to see down to earth guys being interviewed and carving up the waves; many who are now household names in Irish surfing circles... I've even met a couple over my few years in the surfing scene.
Sea Fever was the first production of Ken O'Sullivan and credit must be given for a job well done on his first outing. Definitely worth a watch to get some knowledge on Irish surf history and witness some great shots at Aileens. Short clip below.
Rating: 3/5
wish i could get to the point where i would even think about big wave surfing! :)
