3 Days in Lahinch

Wrecked, aching and stoked all at once after three good days surfing down at Lahinch!

This was one of the first trips in a while with a lot of the gang together; 9 surfers and a few spectators! West Coast Lodge was our humble abode for the weekend and it was perfect... Duncan and Carol have a great setup there and the spread of breakfast every morning got us fueled up for a good few hours in the water.

I arrived at Lahinch early on Friday evening and got straight into the water. It was high tide, I was out on my own and to ensure I wasn't thrown on the rocks at the prom I went a bit further down the beach where it was a bit safer.

We all got two surfs in on Saturday (with a cheeky nap in between!) and a final surf Sunday.

It was on the lips of a lot of surfers all week; the perfect surf conditions expected on the west coast for the weekend and guess what... it arrived! I've never seen Lahinch beach as busy and I heard reports that Doonbeg was as busy too.

The biggish swell, good wave period and favourable wind meant that a few of the top spots in and around the Lahinch area were on with a good few seasoned surfers hitting Crab and Aileens.

I saw Fergal Smith at Kenny's Saturday night so he was obviously here to take full advantage of the great conditions.

The waves at Lahinch ranged from 1 foot up to around 5 foot over the weekend. It was great conditions to have a good go on the new board, the best so far.

It's tough not living beside the coast and trying to progress your surfing but the 3 days at the weekend really brought a lot of us a long way with many nice sized, clean waves caught.

Next weekend its Bundoran for a couple of surfs; there's a charity party night on Saturday at Bundoran Surf Co. so it should be a bit of craic and the wave forecast is looking promising again!
